Michele Twigden

resident of Kerikeri for 20 years, mother of two typical northland boys (loud) and a keen gardener.

I have been a Associate Member of Tax Institute since 1998, enjoyed and gained skills from my involvement with BOT, committees, Wise Womens Network and other organizations.

With my previous background of 10 years as a Commercial Financier, having been self employed myself in the hospitality industry, 15 years of providing business courses in researching and establishing new businesses, and 15 years of providing accounting and business services in Northland, I believe I have a practical and realistic understanding and approach to the challenges of business. Therefore as well as providing the needed accounting services required to meet IRD obligation, I like to work with clients to ensure their own goals for themselves and their business are met.

My husband and I moved to Kerikeri six years ago as we wanted a more relaxed environment in which to bring up our three boys (not that having three boys is relaxing!). Having owned a number of businesses both locally and in Auckland I understand what it is like to be self-employed - especially in today's tough environment - and am passionate about helping business owners to not only survive but also hold on to the dream that inspired them to go into business in the first place. I am an Associate Chartered Accountant and am currently completing the academic requirements for full CA status. I also have a background in marketing, market research and television production (was once the contestant co-ordinator on Blind Date - who said accountants were dull!).

My family moved to Kerikeri 30 years ago and despite extensive travel both within New Zealand and overseas I kept returning to the Bay. I spent seven years with the RNZAF obtaining the rank of Corporal which provided me with a strong grounding in administration and sparked my interest in travel. Four years working in the hospitality industry in Scotland and twelve years as a travel consultant in Kerikeri (with associated National Certificate qualifications) has given me extensive experience in business administration and accounting. I have a strong systems orientation (probably due to being a Virgo!) which assists with my enthusiasm for amateur genealogy. I am also a bit of a fitness nut - a necessity if I am to keep up with my 10 year old son.
